

| 3rd World Congress of Science and Medicine in Cricket |
| Bridgetown, Barbados 4-7 April 2007 |
| Building on the successes and experience of the previous congresses held at Lilleshall |
| National Sports Centre, England in 1999 and at the Spier Wine Estate, Cape Town, |
| South Africa in 2003 the meeting was a major international event involving participants |
| from the major cricket playing nations. |
| The Congress was hosted immediately prior to the ‘Super 8’ Series of matches of the |
| Cricket World Cup . Sport scientists, physiologists, academics, students, administrators |
| and coaches with an interest in cricket took the opportunity to participate in this meeting. |
| The majority of the delegates also attended the Opening Ceremony for the World Cup. |
| The full range of current issues was represented in the Congress programme in order to |
| increase the awareness and understanding of the game, thus raising the standards of |
| support provided to cricketers around the world. A feature was the keynote lecture |
| sponsored by WCSS delivered by Mark Williams and was focused on motor skills |
| learning in cricket. |
| The aim of the Congress was to: |
• provide a state of the art review of the basic, applied and clinical sciences as they relate |
to cricket and the impact of cricket on society. |
• provide a forum for integrating knowledge from the contributing sciences which address |
key areas in the prevention and management of injuries in cricket |
| • identify those areas where our understanding is incomplete and encourage discussions |
| of the challenges that face all involved in the advancement of the game of cricket. |
| • provide a forum for the dissemination of scientific information relating to cricket. |
| The Congress was sponsored by Pfizer Inc. Dr. Llewellyn Harper is Chairman of the |
| Congress Organizing Committee. A special thanks goes to him and his hard working |
